Some of the best meals in Ontario never see a restaurant. They happen in a field, at a long table, on a night a farm decides to open its gates. The menu follows the season and the seats fill quietly. Here are the farm dinners worth finding this summer.
GRAZE at Lynn River Farm
Norfolk County
Lindsay and Mike Higgins serve six courses outdoors, set around the fire pits, over a long and unhurried evening. The menu is rewritten every few weeks to follow what the fields and nearby farms are growing. Live music, one long table, and a meal that arrives a course at a time.
Eigensinn Farm
Singhampton, Grey County
A quiet legend. The Stadtländers grow and raise nearly everything they serve, then cook multi-course dinners in their farmhouse. There is no sign on the highway and no need for one. People find their way here on purpose.
Littlejohn Farm
Prince Edward County
An evening here can begin with a walk through the farm before dinner is served outdoors under open sky. The kitchen leans on French technique and whatever the property is producing that week. The season runs from late spring into October.
Wilmot Orchards
Newcastle, Durham Region
A working blueberry farm that opens its rows just a few times a year for a dinner in the field. For one night a single fruit becomes the whole menu, and the orchard becomes the dining room.
Manorun Organic Farm
Lynden, Hamilton
Chris Krucker and Denise Trigatti have farmed this land organically for twenty-five years, just beyond Ancaster and Dundas. A few times a season they set a long table and serve a multi-course dinner drawn entirely from the farm, its herbs, grains, vegetables, and pasture-raised meat. Seats are few and they sell out fast.
